SUMMER MORNING
(Free translation from Russian by the author Yosef Latman)
The wood goblin turned into a jackdaw… and
Along the coast it flies;
Water-spirit is dancing with a mermaid
By the young brittle willows...
And the fog, hanging over the river,
While its curls are gilding in the sun,
Lights candles in silence, on the reeds.
Then, jokingly, having fun,
It wakes the sleeping hoopoe...
And for everyone, slightly closing their eyes,
Is smiling from the heavens
The setting star, as coming home hooper.*
Early dawn! .. In the field and
On the banks of a silvery river
From the dungeon, escaping to freedom
The young Day asks for your hand...
